Day 8 Thursday
A climbing day! Great hill route up to Slaidburn and on to High Bentham over the top of the pass on a road called "Quiet Lane" well named as we saw more wild horses than cars! Otherwise uneventful run and another 57miles done. We've decided to miss the day off tomorrow as we want to do a short day of around 30 miles instead. This will give us a good head start the following day when we cross the border! Great YHA hostel near Windermere tonight and we've found a bike repair shop to get a new chain for Alec (a fair exchange?) before we set off tomorrow. Will let you know how we get on on the highest road pass in the lakes tomorrow....

I was going to open with a Phew! and well done, enjoy your day off, press some flowers etc, but you are gluttons for punishment or maybe you've seen the forecast for Cumbria tomorrow? It's pretty bleak and is better for further north. Does that get you to the Border? I feel a song coming on....
ReplyDeleteHow did you go with the challenges today? You've caught me on the hop as I have nothing prepared for the next bit. No time to play at work today but will do researches for Saturday if I can work out where you will be on the schedule.
Enjoy your EASY! day
There was an article in the Press and Journal on Thursday about a group of 24 oilworkers who cycled 230 miles from Skye to Newburgh, left on Friday, arrived on Monday, raising money for Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone.
